I have expressed time and again that I believe the BBC has a lot to answer for and I personally favour decriminalising non payment of the Licence Fee as soon as possible, and at the next BBC Charter Review for 2027, I believe the Licence Fee should be scrapped.
I am furious at the BBC’s decision to revoke the free TV licence for the over 75’s who don’t receive pension credits from the 1st August 2020.
They struck a deal over the funding, which committed the free TV licence for the over 75’s, and they should honour it!
I was therefore pleased to have 65 other Conservatives colleagues sign my letter to the BBC, asking them to reconsider the decision.
It is a kick on the teeth for the over 75’s who have in most cases not left their homes during COVID-19. The TV is also an important tool in tackling loneliness with our elderly population.
The fact pensioners have been prioritised today take the brunt of cost savings shows how out of touch the BBC are with their viewers.
