It was a pleasure to once again raise Chatterley Whitfield Colliery in the House of Commons once again.
The site hadn’t been mentioned in the House of Commons since 2010 until I was elected. Working with the Chatterley Whitfield Friends , Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Historic England, we hope to publish our vision for an Industrial Heritage Park.
The long term plan is to ensure the protection and preservation of our industrial heritage, celebrating our history of the pits and pots, but also breathing new life into this sleeping giant.
We could utilise the vast complex to include some small retail units, Titanic Brewery, heritage museum, classrooms for Staffordshire University and Keele University and other space for the private sector to capitalise upon.
I want long term to see Chatterley Whitfield be the start of a British Trail of Industrial Heritage, as seen in Germany, ensuring the cultural capital these sites have are secured for future generations.
