Today it was a pleasure to walk around North Road Academy, meeting with staff and students to learn how they have adapted for COVID-19 and discuss the return of all students to school, in September 2020, as announced today by the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson.
The school did a superb job adapting by ensuring staff and students understood Google Classroom, before closing to no students whose parents weren’t key workers.
I was also impressed how students were followed up on by being called of work isn’t submitted and students in year groups outside of Reception, Year 1, Year 6 and Year 10, have been brought back if they haven’t engaged fully with learning at home.
Education is the biggest factor for improving social mobility and it is one we must push for higher standards, higher results so young people can access higher skilled and higher wage jobs.
