In total there are 300,000 veterans living in the U.K. who served in Northern Ireland.
I made an intervention during the Overseas Operation Bill, which helps to end the vexatious claims against our Armed Forces who served abroad, to call on the Government to extend this protection for those who served in Northern Ireland.
It is disgraceful that thousands of vexatious and false claims have been made against our veterans, causing many to still live in fear.
This isn’t right and whilst these attacks on our veterans are made, it enables those who want to continue to sow divisions and rewrite history, rather than helping to draw a line in the sand and look forward, rather than to the past.
The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland will bring forward the legislation later this year the Minister for Veterans Affairs, Johnny Mercer, confirmed during the debate.
