This week, Stoke-on-Trent City Council is distributing computers to disadvantaged pupils in the Potteries who do not have access to IT equipment or the internet.
More than 1,500 disadvantaged youngsters in Stoke-on-Trent are being issued with laptops to help them access online learning during the Covid-19 crisis, as part of the national scheme.
A total of 1,533 laptops, worth around £430,000, along with 135 4G routers, have now been delivered to the council, which has started to pass them onto schools.
The national scheme set up by the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson, has seen 100,000 laptops and tablets distributed so far with a total of 230,000 being handed out by the end of June. In total the
Department for Education has spent £100 million on the scheme.
