Yesterday I attended the Stoke Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club at the Green Star in Smallthorne. They take place on the first Sunday of every month.
Yesterday was their 4th birthday. It is wonderful to see so many of our brave veterans and their families attend, and I was honoured to hear their stories. I hope I can bring the Minister for Veterans Affairs Johnny Mercer, along to a breakfast soon.
It is very clear what needs to happen:
1. Legislate to end the vicious trials against our veterans who served in Northern Ireland
2. Improve the quality of housing for serving personnel and their families
3. Build veteran communities, as seen on DIY SOS The Big Build, which brings derelict housing back into use
4. Better access to mental health services, drug and alcohol support
I am proud to have family members who have served. Both my grandad’s were in the military and my grandad’s uncle, Alan Gullis, who lives today, is a D-Day veteran.
We must be proud of all our service men and women and our veterans who have or were willing to give their lives for our safety and freedom.
