Made possible by funding secured by Jonathan from the £17.6 million Kidsgrove Town Deal, and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, Kidsgrove Sports Centre has been successfully refurbished and reopened.
The Sports Centre, a hugely popular facility for residents across Kidsgrove, Talke and Newchapel, was closed in 2017 by the then-Labour led Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, when they refused the option to buy it for £1.
Since before being elected, Jonathan has campaigned for Kidsgrove Sports Centre to re-open.
Working with the Kidsgrove Town Deal board, Kidsgrove Sports Centre Community Group, and local authority, Jonathan was able to secure £2.75 million from the Kidsgrove Town Deal towards the Sports Centre.
Five years after it was closed, the Sports Centre re-opened in July 2022.
The refurbishment has completely overhauled the Sports Centre. It boasts a brand new 25 meter swimming pool, refitted sports hall, gym as well as new flooring, heating and ventilation systems throughout.
The facility will also be run by the local community on a 25 year lease from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council – headed up by the fantastic Mark Clews who has been a champion of this project since the centre was closed.
