Jonathan Gullis has thanked the Home Office for record investment in Tunstall to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
After over a year of campaigning, Jonathan has said he is “delighted” that Tunstall is set to receive £250,000 as part of Round 5 of the Government’s Safer Street Funding. Having missed out in the previous round, Jonathan thanked the local Police, Crime and Fire Commissioner, Ben Adams, for supporting Tunstall’s bid. This funding is in addition to almost £3 million already secured by the through Safer Streets in rounds one, two, three and four to crack down on crime in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
Given that Tunstall was competing with other areas in the region for funding, it is particularly good news for Tunstall as it has a record of unreported crimes. In the last round of funding, this put the town at a disadvantage as it was difficult to make the case for more funding for anti-crime measures. However, with over seven hundred people signing Jonathan’s Safer Street petition calling for more support to make streets in areas like Tunstall, Cobridge and Smallthorne, the Home Office recognised the importance of investing in the local area.
With Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire set to receive £1.4 million in funding from the Home Office, Jonathan says that this investment will give “reassurance to residents that their safety comes first.”
Commenting, Jonathan Gullis MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, Kidsgrove and Take said:
"I am delighted the Government has listened, and supported Ben and I in delivering this investment to make sure the streets of Tunstall are safe for everyone.”
"After campaigning for over a year on this, and successfully securing the support of over 700 local residents, today's announcement will give reassurance to residents that their safety comes first, as well as helping Staffordshire Police lock up criminals who plague communities."
Commenting, Ben Adams, Police, Crime and Fire Commissioner for Staffordshire said:
“Tackling the anti-social behaviour that can harm our communities is a key priority in my Police & Crime Plan, as where these problems are repeated, residents can feel unsafe in their own neighbourhoods.
“This latest round of funding will help to boost the significant work already underway across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, combining practical measures like CCTV and improved lighting with education to change people’s behaviours – not only making our communities safer, but ensuring they feel safer too.”
Commenting, Tunstall Ward Councillor, Tabrase Din, said:
“It is great news for the residents of Tunstall that money has been secured from the Safer Streets Fund.
I have worked hard alongside Jonathan Gullis MP to make sure Tunstall receives its fair share of funding to help our police officers tackle crime on our streets.
This is another pledge I made to residents that has been delivered and I look forward to giving my input into where this much needed money is spent.”
