Back in late April I wrote to Robert Jenrick, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government and Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, asking them to bring back funding to Stoke-on-Trent City Council, and other local authorities, to pre-2014 levels in public health grants.
The cost of this global pandemic is not yet clear and the government has already done so much for our NHS, employees, business and local government. But I believe in these unprecedented times we need to reinvest in our local authorities further, via public health grants, to protect our most vulnerable citizens, especially in the wake of COVID-19.
I am asking for higher levels of funding for local authorities to provide the highest standards of care possible.
I have requested a meeting and an update on any discussions relating to public health grants within Government departments.
