Yesterday at the daily Downing Street press conference, Stoke Sentinel report Joe Burn, asked the Prime Minister and his team of advisers about ramping up testing at the bet365 Stadium and the important role patients who have/had COVID-19, at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust), are playing in the clinical study to find the world’s first proven drugs treatment for Covid-19.
In response the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, said:
“First of all, thanks to the entire people of Stoke-on-Trent for what they're doing to help us collectively to get this virus down and get it under control, to pass the peak in the way we have done...We're going to ramp it up even further. And on your point about making sure key workers in Stoke-on-Trent get the test they need on time without needing to do an 80-mile round trip, the best I can tell you is we'll be on to it and we'll come up with a way to ensure they get the test they need without going through that kind of palaver."
Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, added:
"It's really extraordinary so many people in Stoke-on-Trent and indeed in many other cities around the UK, but absolutely in Stoke-on-Trent, have volunteered for this. And I'd just like to say a huge thank you on behalf of future patients who are going to actually benefit from the fact people have volunteered to do this and that means we will learn as Chief Scientific Advisor says, as new drugs come through, as old drugs are tested against this, we will be able to treat this better. That will be down to the people in Stoke-on-Trent and elsewhere taking part in these trials. An enormous thanks."
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE IN STOKE-ON-TRENT, KIDSGROVE AND TALKE 👏.
