Having been inspired by the Price & Kensington case, on the 22nd September 2020, I will introduce a Ten Minute Rule Bill to change Section 216 of the Town & Country Planning Act.
At present the punishment for rogue landowners, like at Price & Kensington, means they can allow buildings of such importance to rot with the maximum of a level 3 fine (£1000), creating and eye sore to the area and more importantly damaging our history.
I want the fine to be unlimited so Local Authorities can take such unscrupulous people to court and allow the judge to use their discretion to determine the appropriate level of fine.
I am pleased to have some support from the opposition benches.
As you know have written previously to the Secretary of State for Communities, Housing and Local Government, as well as attending a Zoom meeting with him.
I hope this Bill will go through Parliament and put the law on the side of local people.
